Background noise

Always like a bit of good music in the back ground when I wargame or paint. So heres a few songs that seem very inspiring for saga in particular -

(note a trend here - all rock bands, sort of gives my tastes away)

Thin Lizzy - Emerald (very apt with the Irish due soon)

Black Sabbath - Warpigs (works for any game)

Marillion - Grendle (the fantasy side of life but awesome none the less)

Lez Zeppelin - Cant remember title (please some one save me from this brain freeze) but it goes on about valhalla, and the land of ice and snow where the north wind blows. (epic, nuff said)

What others have I forgotten or never heard of.....

Led Zeps Battle of Evermore - more LOTR
But the one with as definate saga theme has to be Hawkwinds warrior at the edge of time album - with the fold out cover that makes a shield.

Back on the Hawkwind theme - Calvert later did an album called Leif and the Longships about vikings and the american sailing escapade ... ship of fools is a good song but the best one has to be a 'Beach Boys' pisstake melody where they use beach boy rifts to words like:
Bar bar bar, bar bar barbarians
We get around ...
etc .... very funny.

Amon Amarth - Swedish death metal with a heavy viking influence lyrically. With song titles such as "Pursuit of Viking", "Wrath of the Norsemen", "Guardians of Asgaard", and "Runes to My Memory" one gets in the mood in no time.

Tyr - More towards being straight up heavy metal with some folk influences and from the Faroe Islands. Some songs include "Hold the Heathen Hammer High" and "By the Sword in my Hand".

Winterfylleth - British black metal with a hint of punk influence. Very Anglo-Saxon mythological lyrics. Song titles "The Hour of Good Men on the Path to Eternal Glory", "Defending the Realm" etc....

Skalmold - Icelandic heavy metal. They have an album called "Baldur" and its in Icelandic, very good album.

Leave's Eyes - Name of the band is based off Leif Eriksson. Female vocalist with operatic'ish vocal stylings, generally much tamer than the other bands mentioned. Song titles such as "Ragnarok", "Njord", "Emerald island", "Vinland Saga".

Jaldaboath - Classified as "Heraldic Templar Metal", I find it very Monty Python inspired lyrically and musically. Songs include "Hark the Herald", "Jaques De Molay", "Axe Weilding Nuns", "Bash the Bishop"

Finntroll - Finnish folk metal, they sing in Suomi. Good stuff though.

Ex Deo - Romanesque Heavy Metal. Songs include "Cry Havoc", "Legio XIII", and "Storming the gates of Alesia".

Eluveitie - Folk metal. Based on Celtic mythology etc.... Songs include "Do(Minion)", "thousandfold", "Bloodstained Ground".

Myself and my mates usually have some of this stuff going when having a few games and/or painting.
