Sikelgaita

Where figures and manufacturers are discussed, all relevant to the Saga or Muskets and Tomahawks periods, needless to say

Sikelgaita

While doing some reading, I recently came across Sikelgaita (wife of Robert the Weasel who apparently went into battle with him). I think she might make a fabulous warlord for my Norman army. Any ideas on where I might find an armed female Norman figure?

Could you convert a male knight? Add long hair and a bit of miliput to the chest area? Wargames Foundry do some shield maidens you could convert one of these, they are on foot but with a cut at the waist and the bottom half of a Norman Knight you could get her mounted. :)

Play for fun and enjoy the game.

Thanks for the thought. It may come to that, but I think I will try get an Eoywn (Lord of the Rings) figure from games workshop. She looks "Norman" enough I think, especially with the helmet off. My only concern is how big she is compared to other 25mm figures. Games Workshop is notorious for their figures not fitting in with others. Does anyone know how big their LOTR line is compared to, say, Gripping Beast?

The GW LOTR range is not huge, or heroically proportioned & wouldn't look out of place with 25-28mm historical figures indeed they might look a little slight compared with Gripping beast, but I think it would work.

Try one of the old GW range?

Brunhilda might do the business (She appears in later catalogues as "Big Mama")
You'll have to search Fleabay, or post a request on The Warhammer Forum or the CCM group's board (http://groups.yahoo.com/group/Collectin ... iniatures/) she's quite a common figure, so will probably cost less than a modern GW mini!

You could also try - http://www.reapermini.com/ - reaper miniatures. they are a heroic scale so will make a good warlord figure if you can find an appropiate one.

maybe try search "female human" with "warrior" or "fighter" or "paladin" or even "viking".

Once you have a name, you can usually find them on ebay with a decent postage cost.

this one looks quite a good find - http://www.reapermini.com/OnlineStore/f ... down/02459

Thanks for those links ducat. I actually considered that figure for a while, but I was looking for something a bit more realistic. I decided that I would have to do too much work on it to make me happy.

DId you ever find a good female figure Mark? I am a new Saga player and I am actually trying to build a norman warband that has all female figures. I think I might have to give up as it is extremely hard to find historically accurate female figures. Reaper has a decent amount of female figures, but they seem to be more fantasy oriented.

Don't give up: Having been a sword-jock for 54 years I've seen, taught, & appreciated a fair number of armored women. Oft times no matter how Zaftig they are the mail or whatever armor often flattens them out & they look little different then barrel-chested men in armor. ZB: Having seen Ann Schilling of Seattle Knights wearing modern clothes instead of armor, there is no doubt that she's a very attractive female. As you can see from the following page she doesn't show as much different than a guy in armor.

If you want to accentuate female attributes though you can easily accomplish that using a bit of sculpting putty or epoxy, then pattern in the maille with an exacto knife.

best of luck.
