What paints do you use for Saga Figures.

Where members religiously discuss about History, and the right way to paint Vikings trousers and Indian skins amongst other things

bright inks are good for thinning paint of a similar colour & brightening up the paint also there is a trick with reds which involves very lightly dry brushing it bright yellow & then over washing it with bright red paint thinned with bright red ink. I did my Warmachine Kador jacks like that but I have also used it on big figures 54mm or larger.

Thanks for the extra information on CDA paints
Foundry and CDA are made by the same company, HMG, as are P3 from Privateer Press.
CDA is their own brand, but Foundry is the premium range of the three

Ive only just started using CDA and like the coverage the paint gives, better than Valejo i feel.I have been using Valejo sepia wash which i have a huge pot of but havent used their other washes. You are right with the Games workshop washes though as i use them also and they dont seem as good as when i first tried them.
My next question is what flesh recipes do you all use for Dark ages? Also Varnishes as i use Testors Dullcote at the momment but have some Widsor and Newton matt acyrilic varnish which i havent used yet.

Flesh is easy I use Miniature Paints Tanned flesh as a base colour though the old GW Tanned flesh is close & foundry have a similar triad I then over wash with Windsor & Newton Peat ink in a varnish glaze when I do the whole figure with it & highlight by very very lightly dry brushing with Miniature painters Pale flesh which I use as a universal highlight for the whole figure.

Works would post pictures but unfortunately my camera doesn't at the moment..... But I will have lots of figures painted that way up on my Dark ages Blog shortly

For flesh, I just use Foundry flesh A, B and C, with brown, flesh and sepia coloured washes to taste.

For varnish, below is a link to my thoughts on varnishing:

I use vallejo lots, also foundry for speed. The new GW paints are good for flesh n horses cos theyre a kinda transluscent gel so great for blending but only when used with the GW base paints, overall very unimpressed with this range for anything other than flesh really.

Yes though I did have to wash my computer in Narang nine times after visiting that website & have you seen the price of the stuff these days!! Artists inks are much better as are ironically the old GW inks, though if you have those they can wash off, or bleed into over painting if you dont fix them with a bit of gloss varnish mixed in as you apply them.

I have a huge mix of different paints I use - from really old citadel stuff, more modern gw stuff, privateer press, cheap lots from the range(big tubes of artists acryllics, just water it down) and even some taimya models stuff which i find is cool for some undercoats and basing work(ie its cheap for a large pot). Basically whatever I happen to have in the colour I want I guess. Dont personally do inks, just cant get on with it.

Basically a very ecclectic mix that I just have to make work. I would say my stuff ends up to a high end, good quality gaming finish rather than display models, but thats cool, I like it and thats whats important lol.
