Mal's Anglo-Danish Warband [The Danes are near...]

Postby Mi7 » Sat Sep 10, 2011 8:39 pm

Here is a quick glimpse of my Warlord for my Anglo-Danish Warband.
Image
Using the Griping Beast Saxon Plastic box set (very nice kit), yet to base him properly on a 40mm, but quite happy with the pose and Dane axe bash, think his quite command-like.

I have built up most of my 4 point warband just need some additional spears for my warriors

Here is what i'm trying to build...

Warlord (dane axe) [plastic saxon Gripping Beast]
4 Huscarls (hand weapons + banner) [plastic saxon Gripping Beast]
8 Huscarls (spears + musician) [plastic saxon Gripping Beast]
8 Ceorls (spears) [metal romano-british West Wind]

Will get some nicer photos up soon...
Oh dear not even played the game and i'm making a log, this game better be awesome ! :D

Tell me what you think, and help me find a good source for naming my warlord?

Cheers all,

MaL

Oh, I like him a lot. Very proud looking 'Lord of all he surveys' sort of pose.

Looks really good, you can get some figures out of the GB boxset

A good source for Anglo-Saxon names would be the Anglo-Saxon Chronicle. I have first dibs on Eadric the Wild (led Welsh and Saxons against the Normans post-1066) :)

For forenames you can look here: http://www.gaminggeeks.org/Resources/Ka ... ematic.htm
Bynames could be descriptive (Godric the Black), locational (Wigot of Wallingford) or 'son of' (Beohrtric the son of Beorhtnoth).

A few names that come to mind: Asgeir the Staller; Azur the Black; Osgod Clappa; or Waltheof Siward's son (all from Edward the Confessor's time). Then there are the Godwineson's of course: apart from Harold there were Tostig, Leofwine, Gyrth and the black sheep Sweign (exiled for abducting an abbess, he returned leading Viking pirates).

Quite happy with the job, still needs some tiding up but overall i think he looks pretty cool :D

Unsure if i should do a winter base and add some snow or just go with the flow and get some flock etc

What do you guys think?

One Huscarl down, 11 to go!

Excellent job mate, if you really want to smile work out how much he cost, these are great value, cant wait for the unarmoured foot. Mix n match with vikings and warlord celts for even more variety, keep it up!
