Offa??? Or is that too early...my Saxon history isn't great...

Very nice models, btw... The colour scheme looks cool.

Cheers guys!

Yeap your both right Mercia is the place, and I'm having him represent 'Leofric the Grim'

Thought would be a good kingdom as it spread from Welsh border to eastern coastline, so potential for many skirmishes, also Leofric has an awesome coat of arms and very interstinf history and family line.

Had my first games last, played as anglo danish 3points and lost to JP as his viking warlord cut mine doen after a three turn grudge match! Then played vikings against Matts anglo danish, fun game lots of manouvring and intimidation, then a large viking rush that did ok, casulties pretty even both sides, but again it all came down to a warlord contest with both scoring three hits! Luck saved both mine and fate failed all of Matts, so lucky win for me...

Have to say SAGA is a real breath of fresh air! Its not hard to learn the rules (unlike some systems), and has fantastic depth of gameplay in the use of your factions battle board, in a way it rewards innovative ingame tactics and not rule-lawer style pregame strategies, which in my mind is what wargaming should be!!!!!

Anyhow my rulebook is in the shop now, so will looking forward to reading through that

Cheers Alex, for writing an awesome game, GB for publishing it, and to Wargames FC for giving two fun preview games!

Right day off today as it's my birthday!!!

So perfect time to get some more stuff painted....

Here's my Warlord Leofric the Grim, Earl of Mercia...
I've changed the colour scheme as to many different colours were clashing, more work has been done on his shield design...

Here is my second unit of Huscarls making steady progress...

And here are my 8 Ceorls (West Wind Romano British Spearmen, one of the blister came with helmets so lucky for me there is a nice bit of variation in the unit) planning to base these today, my colour scheme for them will be very plain with either shadow grey or fortress grey shields, so they can be easily spotted compared to the Huscarl's more intricate shield designs

I've also included a scale shot of GB's plastic Saxon thengs to West Winds Romano British Spearsmen if anyone is interested...

Cheers

Love them!

Happy Birthday

Only thing that seems unusual is your colour choice for the bases....

Thankyou Cap'n!

My plan is to paint the whole lot up then I will come back and flock the bases properly, that will be the last stage, so have no fear, they do kinda look like urban terrain at the moment but this will change

Next photos coming up...

Cheers,

Under-coated last 4 Huscarls (command group) (centre back of photo)
Based and undercoated my 8 Ceorls (seen in shot back left and right)

If you have exposure compensation on your camera shove it to about + 2/3rds of a stop or more. The white background folls the camera sensor into under exposing

I like this warband Mal, esp the warlord, shows the flexibility of plastics, I also have loads of west wind sculpts, dodgy hands though like the old glory casts but nothing major. Addicted to LBMS shield tranafers myself so rarely hand paint.
