Escort scenario

Postby zezelus » Thu Feb 02, 2012 6:12 am

Firstly i was told the baggage generate Saga dice (but only upto the 6 limit) ...

We have found this helps the Escorter as he can use this as a buffer against losses ... in fact the escorter in our games just goes after the Attacker knowing he will most likely always have 6 Saga dice...while opponent is losing his...
The attackers main advantage seems to be setting up 2nd..

Seems to favour the Escorter in our view...Have others found this??

That is why you have to bid to become the defender with the player bidding the lowest amount of points getting that role.

There is no mention of this in the scenario.

That would make sense then, but like Hithero said I don't remeber seeing that mentioned in the scenario setup either.

You bid in the Homeland scenario but there is no mention of this for the escort scenario.

Never found being the one doing the escorting easy this normally results in me losing, I prefer to attack but that could just be coz I like my vikings and they are better at attack than defence IMHO :D

We played the Escort scenario yesterday
from what we read the baggage elements DO NOT generate Saga dice
but consume them as Hearthguard for movement (or get pushed by the Warlord)
anyway, i lost as i had only a unit of peasants left, but no Saga dice and he had 1 lone warrior and 2 baggage units, so wheeled of the table whistling with the stupid peasants looking on and not using there bows :)
once again we had a great time and suspense till the very end (last action was 2 knights with fatigue against 2 warriors, my 2 knights die against only 1 warrior , aagh)

the FAQ has some clarification on the escart scenario,
In the Escort scenario, does the baggage
generate Saga Dice?

Yes they do, they are not Levies after all. And to
clear up things regarding baggage, they are a bit of
a special unit. They are subject to all rules
governing other unit, but are made of a single
model. So they can engage melee (if they are
desperate) or be sacrificed to save your Warlords
life with the Resilience rule. They cannot gain
benefits by Saga abilities except that they can be
activated with the Heathguard activation ability.
Also, they cannot be targeted by enemy abilities
that would directly affect them.

as for the bidding we can add clarification of that to the next draft of the FAQ

Would that mean that going in contact with Norman Knights i would not be aible to use Charge, Crushed, Dex Aie, Pursuit, Terrified ?
What about my shooting capabilities Aimed Volley, Massed Volley ?

I'm guessing the intention is to stop them suffering from the likes of Intimidation or Taunting, but I agree that as written it could be taken to mean that you can't use extra attack dice against them.

you have to seperate abilities that grant you a bonus in the game and ones that directly effect an enemy unit. it's the latter you cant use against the baggage.

so for example charge give you a bonus in combat so it can be used against baggage, Terrified on the other hand put fatigue on an enemy so couldn't be used against baggage as it directly effects them (add fatigue)

hope that helps
